Snowbright Hydrate

HYDRATED LIME or Slaked Lime is Calcium Hydroxide, Ca(OH)2. LIME is used to provide a source of calcium and hydroxyl ions in both water-based and invert emulsion oil-based fluids.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Controls pH and provides excess calcium.
  • Used to treat bicarbonate/carbonate contamination.
  • Used in clear water drilling as a source of calcium and pH.
  • Used in Gyp/Calcium-based muds.
  • Used in the brine phase of invert emulsion oil-based muds as alkalinity control and fatty-acid emulsifier activator.

LIME additions to a bentonite-based fluid will cause flocculation of the system resulting in
excessive rheology and filtration.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT

0.5-1.0 kg/m³ for pH control and to treat carbonate contamination.
5-25 kg/m³ for calcium-based fluid breakover.
10-30 kg/m³ for oil-based invert emulsion muds.
