HYDRATED LIME or Slaked Lime is Calcium Hydroxide, Ca(OH)2. LIME is used to provide a source of calcium and hydroxyl ions in both water-based and invert emulsion oil-based fluids.
LIME additions to a bentonite-based fluid will cause flocculation of the system resulting in
excessive rheology and filtration.
0.5-1.0 kg/m³ for pH control and to treat carbonate contamination.
5-25 kg/m³ for calcium-based fluid breakover.
10-30 kg/m³ for oil-based invert emulsion muds.
