DEFOAM is a high molecular weight, anionic surfactant. It is an alkanol and surfactant blend in a petroleum distillate.
• Designed for use with water-based drilling or completion fluids.
• Effective at treating minor to excessive foaming conditions.
• Can be used in conjunction with re-cycling stiff foam fluid. It will effectively break the stiff
foam but its characteristics will allow for the re-foaming of the system several times
depending on the accumulated amount in the system.
• Effective at high temperatures, at all pH ranges and is not affected by salinity ranges.
For de-foaming operations, treatment ranges from 0.25-2.0 L/m³. If foaming of the fluid
being utilized is common, pre-treatment of the system will usually aid in preventing a
severe foaming condition and potentially reduce the overall additions.
For stiff foam operations, a common ratio for use is 2:1 vs. foaming agent. In a relevant
perspective, treatment ranges will vary significantly depending on variables such injection
rates, polymer slurry rheology and make-up, foaming agent injection rates and
concentrations.
