SAPP, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (Na2H2P2O7•H2O), is used primarily to sequester calcium contamination that occurs in water-based drilling fluids and as a thinner.
• Is an effective dispersant.
• Reduces the pH range of drilling fluids; not to be used in fluids with a desired pH range in
excess of 9.5.
• Primarily used to treat calcium concentration from cement in water-based fluids.
• Is an effective dispersant for mud rings when water drilling.
• Effective as a rapid thinner prior to cementing casing.
Typically, one Vis cup added directly into the drill pipe each connection.
In areas with very reactive clays, increased treatments will be required.
