Pol-E-Flake

POL-E-FLAKE is a lost circulation product made from polyester film. POL-E-FLAKE is primarily used as a lost circulation additive for drilling fluid and cementing applications. POL-E-FLAKE is typically mixed with other lost circulation material (LCM) such as sawdust.

FEATURES AND BENEFITS

Effective flake material for use as LCM.
Usually used in conjunction with other LCM to assist in sealing and controlling losses of
water-based drilling fluids.
Used as an additive to cement slurries. Its function in this environment is to provide a
matting effect on the wellbore to prevent seepage and whole losses.
POL-E-FLAKE sizes range from 6.4 mm – 9.5 mm (¼” – ⅜”).

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT

Drilling Fluid: 5 – 18 kg/m³ recommended when used in conjunction with other LCM’s.
A common ratio of POL-E-FLAKE usage is 1 bag to 5 bags of LCM such as Kwik Seal.

Cement: 1 – 2% by cement weight.

MIXING/HANDLING:

Mix directly through the mud hopper or into the mud from surface of the mud tank while the viscous fluid is being agitated aggressively. POL-E-FLAKE will cause the shaker screens to blind when circulating. If the concentration needs to remain in the fluid, the shaker screens will need to be by-passed to ensure the product is retained in the active system. When using POL-E-FLAKE during cementing operations, add directly into the cement slurry in the mixing tubs prior to pumping cement. Refer to the SDS for specific precautions and handling requirements.
